Founded in 1993, the Antigua & Barbuda Beekeepers Cooperative Society (ABBC) has spent decades uniting local beekeepers, advancing sustainable apiculture, and championing the rich honey heritage of our islands. From a modest group of passionate hobbyists, we’ve grown into a recognized cooperative that protects pollinators, empowers producers, and preserves Antigua & Barbuda’s unique floral biodiversity.

Key Moments In Our

rich 30 year history

Establishment

A small circle of beekeepers comes together to form the ABBC, sharing knowledge, resources, and a vision to produce high-quality, locally sourced honey.

Expansion & Education

ABBC membership grows as more beekeepers join, driven by training programs and community outreach. The cooperative begins formalizing best practices and fosters collaboration across Antigua & Barbuda.

Embracing Sustainability

In response to environmental concerns and the critical role of pollinators, ABBC institutes chemical-free hive management and promotes beekeeping methods that safeguard bees, habitats, and consumers alike.

Collective Marks & Global Recognition

With support from partners like WIPO, ABBC launches collective marks for Antigua & Barbuda Wildflower Honey and Barbuda Logwood Honey, cementing the cooperative’s reputation for quality and authenticity.

A Thriving Apitourism Vision

ABBC continues to innovate, exploring apitourism, educational workshops, and further expansion of honey by-products—always guided by a commitment to ethical, eco-friendly apiculture.

WE ARE COMMITED

We believe every jar of honey should reflect genuine island flavors, responsible harvesting, and unwavering quality. By uniting local beekeepers under one cooperative, we ensure that your purchase supports ethical practices, strengthens our local economy, and brings you the very best of Antigua & Barbuda’s natural bounty.

Our mission goes beyond selling honey. At ABBC, we provide training, mentorship, and collaborative marketing tools that help beekeepers thrive—whether they’re seasoned professionals or just starting out. By sharing knowledge and resources, we create sustainable livelihoods, foster entrepreneurship, and build a network where every member’s success lifts the entire community.

Healthy bees mean a healthy planet. By embracing chemical-free hive management, preserving lush foraging areas, and respecting the natural cycles of our pollinators, ABBC champions a brighter future for both people and the environment. After all, when we protect the bees, we protect the very source of our food security and biodiversity.
